Background
The Tata Trusts conceptualized the Reviving Green Revolution Initiative in 2002, aiming to support diversification in agriculture in Punjab and Tamil Nadu, enhancing the income of rural communities. The initiative established a centralized body, the Reviving Green Revolution (RGR) Cell in Ludhiana, Punjab. It heavily depends on public and private agricultural institutions for technology development and dissemination. It collaborates closely with Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Department of Agriculture (DoA), and the state Governments of Punjab (GoP) and Tamil Nadu (TN).
Promoting Regenerative and No-Burn Agriculture Project (PRANA Project)
The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is collaborating to eliminate crop residue burning in Punjab, focusing on an area with significant rice and wheat production. This traditional practice contributes to air pollution and climate change. TNC secured a grant for the Promoting Regenerative and No-burn Agriculture (PRANA) project with goals to eliminate burning on 1 million hectares of cropland, engage 250,000 farmers in zero-burn cropping systems, mitigate 6 million tonnes of CO2e emissions, save 500 billion liters of water, and develop a pilot financial instrument to incentivize farmers.
Overview
The Reviving Green Revolution Cell seeks a Communication Specialist to lead Behavioral Change Communications (BCC) efforts in Punjab under the PRANA project. Responsibilities include designing and implementing communication strategies, engaging stakeholders, and monitoring effectiveness. Qualifications include a Master’s degree in Communication or related field, experience in communications within agriculture or environmental sectors, project management skills, and a passion for sustainable agriculture.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive BCC strategy for promoting regenerative agriculture practices.
- Create and manage communication campaigns to engage farmers and stakeholders.
- Address communication gaps and challenges in adopting regenerative practices.
- Build relationships with media outlets, influencers, and community organizations.
- Monitor and evaluate communication strategies, adjusting based on data.
- Organize on-ground events and media workshops to increase project visibility.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Communication, Marketing, Journalism, or related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in communications within agriculture, sustainability, or environmental sectors.
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Experience in building relationships with media, influencers, and community organizations.
- Passion for sustainable agriculture and social/environmental impact.
Emoluments
The position offers a Salary of Rs. 60,000 per month (CTC) + Travel expenses on actual basis.
